The word ‘Ayus’ means the duration of life and ‘Veda’ means wisdom. Thus, Ayurveda deals with the totality of life, physical and mental health, family structure, social situations, environment and spiritual development. It is a comprehensive science that provides suggestions about how to live an enriched, happy and disease-free life and how to enhance the pleasures of life.
Ayurveda is a medical system from ancient India and is said to be as ancient as humanity itself. Recent research shows that the Vedas are between 3500 to 5000 years old and Ayurveda is from Rig Veda and Atharva Veda. It is often called ‘the science of life’ as it tells us the art and craft of living. It provides remedies and prescribes methods to bring the body to equilibrium and harmony when physical pain, disorders, ailments and diseases arise in the body. All the remedies used are of a natural origin with great emphasis on a balanced diet.
Nutritional advice is available, based on yogic / ayurvedic diet and gentle cleansing and fasting is encouraged.
